Teacher education is the bedrock of the quality of the educational system of every country. For this quality to be realized, it is important to constantly monitor the stages (theoretical, teaching practice, research project) involved in teacher education. This study sought to investigate the effectiveness of the teaching practice stage of the teacher education programme in the University of Buea from the perspective of cooperating teachers. More specifically, the study sought to determine from the perceptions of cooperating teachers on whether student teachers command a mastery of the subjects they teach. The research methodology used was a survey of the opinions of 194 cooperating teachers selected through the simple random sampling technique. The subjects completed a self-response questionnaire made up of open and closed-ended items. Data analysis was done using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences to obtain frequencies, simple percentages, mean scores, and standard deviations were used. The results obtained revealed that participants were divided in their opinions ON the objective that guided the study. Based on these findings, recommendations were made to guide relevant practice, policy and research.
